Leslie Merrill is UPMC’s senior consultant for government relations. She provides strategic direction and positioning counsel in all aspects of government and public relations, including media and events. She was the host of UPMC Health Minute medical news updates, and also serves on the Advisory Council for the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.
For more than 23 years, Ms. Merrill has appeared in films, television, news, commercials, and has hosted national award-winning nature documentaries. She most recently played the role of murder victim Elizabeth Gesas in the epic film, The Next Three Days, starring Russell Crowe. In the film In Northwood, she played the supporting role of Allen’s mother. Ms. Merrill also appeared in a recurring role as a television news reporter in the television series The Kill Point.
Ms. Merrill is the host and co-executive producer of the tourism show Discover Pittsburgh Country. She worked as the court reporter on the Telepictures court show Judge Mathis, and as a news anchor and medical reporter in several markets, including FOX 53 in Pittsburgh.
Ms. Merrill’s greatest passions are her son, Herbie, who works in the front office for the Texas Rangers, and her beloved pets, a pot-belly pig named Layla, a Maine Coone cat called Tashi, and a Chow Chow known as Teddy.
Since the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Ms. Merrill has made many trips to Port-au-Prince — including one several days after the quake, where 54 orphans and two Pittsburgh sisters were rescued and brought to safety. She continues to work passionately with the Haitian government doing medical rescues.
