Biography

Ahmad Tarhini, MD, PhD, is an associate professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Division of Hematology-Oncology and the University of Pittsburgh’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute. He specializes in melanoma and other skin cancers, and cancers of the respiratory system.

Board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology, Dr. Tarhini received his medical degree from Kaunas University of Medicine. He received his master of science degree in clinical research and doctorate degree in clinical and translational science from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Tarhini completed both his residency in internal medicine and his hematology and oncology fellowship at UPMC.

Dr. Tarhini has made multiple publications on cancer research and presentations at prestigious national meetings, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association of Cancer Research, and the NCI-ASCO-EORTC Markers in Cancer meeting. In addition to his research work on biomarkers of prognosis and therapeutic benefit in melanoma funded through NIH and other mechanisms, Dr. Tarhini is leading multiple national clinical trials, such as Intergroup E1609 adjuvant trial in melanoma.

Dr. Tarhini has received multiple awards including the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute Junior Scholar Award and the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Young Investigator Award. Dr. Tarhini is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association of Cancer Research, the Cytokine Working Group, the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, the Society for Clinical and Translational Science, and the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer.
