Odell, David Duston, MD

Biography

David D. Odell, MD, MMSc is an assistant professor of surgery in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He specializes in minimally invasive thoracic surgery, specifically focusing on esophageal cancer, lung cancer, paraesophageal and hiatal hernias, benign lung disorders, thymic disease, and gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Dr. Odell is board-certified in general surgery. He received his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. Dr. Odell completed a general surgery residency at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School in Boston, where he spent an additional two years as a research fellow in thoracic oncology. Dr. Odell completed his cardiothoracic surgery residency training at both the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and at UPMC. Before joining the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Dr. Odell worked alongside Dr. James Luketich as an advanced minimally invasive thoracic surgery fellow for six months.

Dr. Odell is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Odell has a Master''s degree in clinical and translational research from Harvard Medical School. He has published several peer-reviewed articles in the field of thoracic surgery along with multiple book chapters, and has been an invited lecturer across the world.
