Manisha R. Shende, MD

Biography

Manisha Shende, MD, is an assistant professor of surgery in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and chief of Thoracic Surgery at UPMC. She specializes in all aspects of thoracic surgical oncology and minimally invasive surgery to repair chest wall deformities, such as pectus excavatum. She also has extensive experience with pectus surgery (Nuss procedure) in adults and children and surgery for hyperhidrosis.

Dr. Shende is board-certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery. She received an undergraduate degree from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College - Bombay, India, and completed a medical degree at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital University of Bombay - Bombay, India. Dr. Shende completed a residency in general and cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/New Jersey Medical School. She completed an advanced thoracic surgery fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Dr. Shende is a member of American College of Surgeons, Association of Women Surgeons, Esophageal Surgery Club, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons.
