SIGNED & WORN PITTSBURGH PENGUINS CANCER AWARENESS WARM-UP JERSEY AUCTION
The Pittsburgh Penguins Cancer Awareness Warm-Up Jersey Auction is now closed. UPMC CancerCenter thanks all those who participated.
About the Penguins Cancer Awareness Game
The Cancer Awareness Game is part of the NHL league wide initiative to raise awareness and funds for organizations supporting cancer care and research. As part of the initiative, players took to the ice for pregame warm-ups in purple jerseys – the color associated with cancer awareness. The Pittsburgh Penguins signed these warm-up jerseys, and donated them to UPMC CancerCenter to benefit cancer patients in western Pennsylvania. Through its network of hospital, treatment, and consultation locations, UPMC CancerCenter will focus the proceeds gained from this auction toward the Patient Assistance Fund.
About the Patient Assistant Fund
When patients are diagnosed with cancer, they generally face a long and difficult treatment process. This process can be even more challenging when patients don't have the means to assume the additional financial burdens that come with receiving care.
The Patient Assistance Fund, founded in 2005, was developed to help cancer patients across the network overcome some of the financial barriers associated with completing their treatment. In addition to the day-to-day expenses associated with cancer treatment, the fund is designed to provide partial, short-term assistance to help eligible patients with care-related costs such as transportation, medical equipment, nutritional supplements, prosthetic devices, and lodging for themselves or family members.
