Melanoma and Skin Cancer Prevention
Exposure to the sun and ultraviolet (UV) radiation may increase your risk for developing skin cancer or melanoma.
Using an effective sunscreen can protect against basal cell and squamous cell cancers of the skin, but it is less clear whether this reduces melanoma risk.
Other skin cancer prevention tips include:
- Follow a sun-smart lifestyle by limiting outdoor solar UV exposure (such as recreational sunbathing).
- Seeking shade when outdoors, and using high sun protection factor (SPF) sunscreens.
- Indoor tanning should be avoided.
