Sally E. Carty, MD (Surgical Oncology)
Sally E. Carty, MD, FACS, is chief of the Division of Endocrine Surgery, a professor of surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, co-director of the UPMC/UPCI Multidisciplinary Thyroid Center, co-director of the UPMC Endocrine Genetics Clinic, and director of the Endocrine Surgery Fellowship Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She specializes in minimally invasive techniques for parathyroid and thyroid surgery, in the use of molecular markers of malignancy in endocrine tumors, and in the care of patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia syndromes.
Dr. Carty is board-certified in general surgery. She received a medical degree at Pennsylvania State University School of Medicine, and completed a residency at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, both in Hershey, Pa. She completed a fellowship in surgical oncology at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md.
Dr. Carty is President-Elect of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons. Dr. Carty is a member of many professional groups and organizations, including the American Surgical Association, American Thyroid Association, Association of Woman Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, American College of Surgeons, Pennsylvania Medical Society, and American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, among others.
