L. Dade Lunsford, MD (Surgical Oncology)

Dr. Lunsford is the Lars Leksell Professor of Neurological Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh and the Director of the Center for Image Guided Brain Surgery at UPMC. His specialties includes the use of image guided technologies to surgically remove or inactivate brain tumors. His experience includes more than 8200 patients who have had Gamma Knife radiosurgery, a powerful tool that destroys deep brain tumors and vascular malformations which otherwise cannot be treated. Dr. Lunsford is board certified in neurosurgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Lunsfords medical training was completed at Columbia University in New York City. His residency was performed at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, followed by a fellowship at the Karolinska Institute located in Stockholm, Sweden - one of Europes most prestigious medical schools. Dr. Lunsford was the first US Neurosurgeon to develop a dedicated CT scanner-equipped operating room as well as the first to introduce the Gamma knife and all subsequent Gamma technologies to the US.
