Radiation Oncology Research and Clinical Trials
UPMC CancerCenter is partners in cancer care with the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, western Pennsylvania’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
This partnership allows us to offer clinical trials throughout our network.
Investigators within the Department of Radiation Oncology are developing and testing new technologies, in addition to evaluating novel applications of existing technologies:
- Investigations are underway in the department’s physics division to develop dynamic-controlled and adaptive radiotherapy.
- Research conducted through the department’s basic science division has recently resulted in an innovative clinical trial of radioprotective gene therapy to prevent esophagitis.
