Cancer Community Outreach Services
Part of UPMC CancerCenter's mission is to advance the understanding of cancer. Cancer Outreach seeks to move beyond the walls of our hospitals and facilities and into the communities in which we serve.
Cancer Outreach, a program of UPMC CancerCenter and the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, provides information about various cancers and the importance of early detection. The group works to increase the awareness and understanding of cancer risk, with a focus on early detection and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The importance of prevention and early detection of cancer and the encouragement of a healthy lifestyle, are emphasized at events held in a variety of settings, including hospitals, workplaces, schools, and communities.
Cancer Outreach is frequently asked to speak at various community groups or organizations on specific topics, such as breast cancer. Speakers are UPMC CancerCenter oncology nurses and social workers. Presentations provide evidence-based information and may include lectures, slides, and videos, depending on the topic discussed.
